For Educators

The New Netherland Museum, in partnership with New York State certified educators, has developed curriculula that integrate history, math, science, and writing, through the Half Moon's voyage. These curricula, for 4th and 7th grades, introduce learning objectives within the framework of the history of New Netherland.

The Half Moon is a full-scale, operating replica of the Dutch ship of exploration that Henry Hudson sailed in 1609. It is a traveling museum that conducts programs about the unique history of the Dutch colony called New Netherland.

April 6-7, 2013:
The Half Moon's 2013 operating season is officially underway! The ship moved from its winter berth King Marine in Verplanck, NY to Peckham Wharf at Athens, where the ship is undergoing an extensive program of material upgrades. Stay tuned for a log of the voyage! You can also use the link to the left to sign up for e-mail updates, keeping you in touch with events and volunteer opportunities over the coming months.

Recent News
November 4-5, 2012: After concluding its visit to East Hartford, CT, the Half Moon made a swift voyage back to its winter berth at King Marine in Verplanck NY, concluding its 2012 operating season.

October 10-23, 2012: 2012 Fresh River Voyage of Discovery: The Half Moon spent the month of October taking students from the Connecticut River Academy to their campus at Goodwin College in East Hartford, CT, followed by classroom programming and a weekend of public tours.

September 8-18, 2012: 2012 Fall Voyage of Discovery: The Half Moon completed its annual recreation of Henry Hudson's voyage of discovery up the river that bears his name.
