A newcomer to the Half Moon, wood carver Robert Breur (picutred on the left), has offered to modify the red lion figurehead that adorns our beak.

As fond as we are of our red lion, its rampant paws do occasionally snag the spritsail. During our work weekend at the end of June, Robert Breur arrives to take the lion back with him to his workshop. When he returns, our lion will be rearing its paws even higher, which will keep them neatly out of harm's way.

Bob Hansen prepares the figurehead for its safe removal.

Over the next few days, Robert adjusts the lion's forepaws in his workshop.

Before we know it, Robert informs us that the lion is carved, painted, and ready to return to its vaunted position on the ship.

Our lion is soon safely harnessed and on its way back to the beak.

With the help of Danny Dawson and new crew member Jan Hendrick van Besten, who's arrived from the Netherlands to join us for our upcoming Schenectady-Nijkerk Voyage of Discovery, the crew soon moves the lion into position...

...where Robert Breur fastens it securely.

Job well done!
